Vocational Incentives Program

Private, non-profit organization offering professional counseling and prevention services.

The Vocational Incentives Program (VIP) assists individuals with a mental health diagnosis to obtain and maintain employment. VIP staff help job seekers to identify their strengths, skills and interests and assist them to find satisfying employment. On-going personal support is offered throughout the job search process and continues after the job starts for as long as support is needed. On behalf of program participants, VIP staff communicate with employers to promote successful outcomes. Our staff are also available to speak to groups or provide workshops on vocational topics.

VIP staff can provide

  • Individualized support with the goal of achieving and maintaining employment
  • Guidance in identifying vocational strengths, interests and aptitudes as well as personalized career planning
  • Assistance creating a resume, completing applications and developing interviewing skills
  • Information and instruction to access job leads and build professional networks
  • Referral to and collaboration with other services, such as Workforce NY and ACCES-VR
  • Benefits counseling

VIP services are offered free of charge to individuals who meet the following qualifications

  • Broome County resident
  • Adult or high school student entering their senior year
  • Have a mental health diagnosis
  • Have a desire to obtain employment or increase community involvement through volunteer opportunities

The VIP Program is funded through the New York State Office of Mental Health and the Broome County Mental Health Department.
