2025 Shay Award Recipients Shine!

Congratulations to Anthony Mazzatti, Broome County winner from Johnson City School District and Nora Prestigiacomo, Cortland County winner from Marathon Central School District who are the 2025 recipients of the Richard Shay Human Services Award and college scholarship from Family & Children’s Counseling Services!

Anthony will begin his post-secondary studies at SUNY Broome with his eye on SUNY Cortland to complete a degree in education. His ambition to enter the field of education was inspired by the educators who have guided him throughout his academic journey.

Reflecting on his influences, Anthony says, “One of the most profound influences on my interest in education is the teachers I’ve had throughout my educational career.”  Anthony graduated as Salutatorian of his class at Johnson City High School. With clear goals and a steadfast dedication to learning, Anthony is well on his way to shaping future generations.

Nora Prestigiacomo also graduated with the distinction of Salutatorian from Marathon High School. With a particular enthusiasm for biology and environmental studies and fueled by the desire to make a positive impact, Nora dreams of pursuing a career in environmental research. Reflecting on her motivation, she shares, “The encouragement and guidance of my science teachers helped me discover my passion for understanding and protecting the world around us.”  Her academic journey will begin at SUNY Binghamton.

We wish them both continued success as they embark on this next chapter. Their exemplary dedication, integrity, and enthusiasm for learning assure a future bright with possibility.
