SUD Counseling and MAT

Private, non-profit organization offering professional counseling and prevention services.

Substance Use Disorder Treatment and Recovery

FCCS offers a range of services for individuals struggling with a substance use disorder (SUD). Our multi-disciplinary team of behavioral health counselors, peers and medical providers use evidence-based practices to engage our clients in addiction treatment and support your recovery.

Many individuals who have been diagnosed with a substance use disorder also suffer from a co-occurring mental health disorder. Our agency can offer integrated dual disorder focused treatment for individuals with co-occurring disorders. This approach helps people address both disorders at the same time—in the same agency by the same team of treatment providers.

If you or someone you are with is experiencing an overdose, please dial 911 for immediate assistance.

SUD services include

  • Assessment for substance use and screening for co-occurring mental health issues
  • Individual and group counseling
  • Telehealth options when assessed as clinically appropriate
  • Peer services to support your engagement in treatment and long-term recovery
  • Mobile outreach from our Outreach and Engagement team
  • Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) and medication management
  • Harm reduction strategies

Counseling sessions are client centered and client driven. We support you every step of the way, adapting your treatment plan as we go, to work for you wherever you are in life. Therapists utilize a wide variety of evidence-based practices including but not limited to Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) along with other innovative treatment methods that have been proven to positively impact the effectiveness of therapy.

What is the intake process?

Your first contact may be with an Intake Coordinator who will help the agency determine the best options for serving you. Your first counseling session may be in person or via telehealth. You will have initial intake paperwork which we can provide in advance, or you may complete the paperwork by arriving 30 minutes early for your first onsite session.

Once the assessment is complete, you and the counselor will develop a treatment plan and work with our medical providers to be evaluated for medication. Family & Children’s Counseling Services recognizes the strength and courage needed to schedule your first appointment and we are grateful you have trusted in us to provide care and treatment during this difficult time.

If you need assistance to access another program that FCCS does not offer (e.g., detox, methadone, inpatient, etc.) we can also assist with the referral process. Our Outreach and Engagement team is available to provide transportation to these programs if needed.

What is Medication Assisted Treatment?

Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) uses medication for the treatment of substance use disorders. MAT includes medications that can treat both the cravings for a substance and limit the effect the substance would have if the person were to use it. Although encouraged, enrollment in counseling services is not a condition or requirement to receive medication assisted treatment.

Family & Children’s Counseling Services has psychiatrists, psychiatric nurse practitioners, and other medical providers who can complete a medication evaluation and when warranted, prescribe medication for clients with a substance use disorder. We offer a number of medications that are approved to treat a SUD and have medical staff who can provide monthly injections where required by that medication. Available medications include:

  • Suboxone/Subutex
  • Vivitrol/naltrexone
  • Sublocade

What is harm reduction?

Harm reduction is an evidence-based approach that emphasizes engaging directly with people who use drugs to prevent overdose and infectious disease transmission; improve physical, mental, and social wellbeing; and offer low barrier options for accessing health care services, including substance use and mental health disorder treatment.

Our mobile Outreach and Engagement team relies on a variety of harm reduction strategies that meet people where they are ― on their own terms, and may serve as a pathway to additional health and social services, including additional prevention, treatment, and recovery services. Harm reduction plays a significant role in preventing drug-related deaths and increasing access to healthcare, social services, and treatment.

Specifically, harm reduction services can:

  • Reduce overdose deaths by connecting individuals to overdose education, counseling, and referral to treatment
  • Provide training and distribute opioid overdose reversal medications (i.e., naloxone/Narcan) to individuals at risk of overdose, or to those who are likely to respond to an overdose.
  • Lessen harms associated with drug use and related behaviors that increase the risk of infectious diseases by offering harm reduction kits that include basic first aid items and drug testing strips.
  • Reduce stigma associated with substance use and co-occurring disorders.
  • Promote a philosophy of hope and healing by offering support and services from people with lived experience.

Family Support Services

Family and friends need support too. FCCS offers counseling and other support services for anyone who has someone in their life who may be struggling with addiction, enrolled in treatment or in recovery from a substance use disorder. We can also refer you to community programs and support groups for individuals impacted by someone’s addiction.

What is the cost?

We accept most insurance plans including Medicaid, Medicare & Child Health Plus (CHIP) and offer discounted fees to those who qualify based on income and family size. Some services are grant funded and available at low or no cost to the individual.
